Trail Description

The trail starts across Alpental Road from a huge gravel parking lot. It follows a series of switchbacks up to a ridge and then down the other side to Snow Lake. There are a few stream crossings that require some work in higher water, but the trail is in surprisingly good shape for the amount of traffic (a lot) that it sees.

Another dreary day, this time with rain. In fact, it was slightly miserable, with steady rain falling and temperatures somewhere in the upper 30s. Even so, we saw several other parties out on the trail. On this cloudy and rainy day, it was impossible to see any of the surrounding peaks, but the lake's color matched the clouds and fog so well that there was a continuum from the shore at our feet all the way up into the sky. It was impossible to distinguish where the lake ended and the sky began.
