     About Me
I hail from the north country of the great state of New York. I grew up in/near the woods, and try to maintain a healthy relationship with the great outdoors (I do this by snowboarding, hiking, camping, etc when I get the chance to do so). I lived in Boston during my undergraduate years at Tufts University, where I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Julia Verplank, my girlfriend. You can read her insightful analyses of popular, (and not so popular) film and episodic entertainment on her blog: Reading The Reels. I currently live in Seattle with my cat, Shuggie (named after the great Shuggie Otis, of course). The passions in my life (in no particular order) are computer science (in which I am thoroughly, and happily immersed), music (in which I am less thoroughly, but as happily immersed), and learning about the natural world (in particular, the infinitely interesting reductionist view of the human brain). When I am feeling slightly less passionate, I enjoy watching movies (especially: I love Stanley Kubrick's films, and I love being confused by David Lynch's films), and I enjoy good comedy (the snarkier the better). I am a musician, but also a lover of the music of other people. Listen to Frank Zappa, it will change the way you hear music. I love to travel, and I've lived in Tokyo, Japan, traversed the United States N/S and E/W several times (covering ~40/50 states), been to Spain to tour, and been to China, first for ISCA 2008, and afterward, to enjoy wandering around the Northeastern part of the country by train. I like to talk to interesting people about things which we both think are interesting. I think that language, the brain, and polyrhythms are amongst the coolest things in the world.

     Music
I am a musician. I primarily play jazz drum kit, but I also play the xylophone, other percussion, the bass guitar, and the piano. I am currently, or was recently involved in several projects.

The Foghorns

The Foghorns is a project assembled, coordinated, and in large part executed by Bart Cameron. Bart's been Foghorning for about 7 years, and he's about 5 albums deep by now. The rest of the present crew are siblings Rich Quigley & Katie Quigley, Jason Kopec, and me. I recently was (generously) invited to play with the group. The music is folk themed, blues-rock with fantastic lyrics. Its a great to be playing with a band like this.

Shudaimon Dubbafucc

Rich Quigley, Nick Davis, and I played some improvisational music together. We had no name for a while, so one night, as the result of a series of events which make up a story which isn't actually that interesting, we decided to call our little trio Shudaimon Dubbafucc. Our music is primarily derived from tribal candy store muzak and associated arhythmic whale call remixes. I play drums, Rich plays wonderful things (including guitar and keys), and Nick plays the bass. We mostly just improvise, giving us the freedom to wave our arms wildly and hoot until our hearts are content. The band is a lot of fun, and I hope you like our music.
